SUVA Grammar School claimed glory and was crowned winners in the boys and girls divisions at the Suva Zone 2 athletics competition at the ANZ National Stadium last Wednesday.

Senior girls’ sprinter Salote Baravilala broke two records in the 100m and 200m and won her third gold medal in the senior girls 4x100m relay.

Baravilala said she “felt great” afterrunning in the blue ribbon event.

“It’s been a while and I’m back on the tracks again and I was hoping for a good outcome,” she said.

“I wasn’t expecting this race to be this easy, but I managed to get along with the new time.”

The Zone 2 sprint queen said she would work hard to try and win the blue ribbon at the Coca-Cola Games later this year.

“I will try my very best, but it’s up to the ne above. I dedicate my win back to the man above and my parents sitting up at the stadium who came to watch me compete.”

Suva Grammar School senior boys sprinter Tevita Sokiveta dedicated his win to his dad Tevita Rogo who is a member of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces 3FIR serving in Golan Heights, Syria.

“This win is for him, he was always in my corner and I know he will be very proud of me today,” said Sokiveta.

Both athletes – Baravilala and Sokiveta – scooped the best female and male athlete awards at the meet.
