Weather watch: Heavy rain cause flash floods in Savusavu

HEAVY rain in Savusavu has caused flash floods along the Lesiaceva Road, which is now closed to all light vehicles.

The Fiji Roads Authority has advised commuters to make alternative plan for trips to this area because the road was flooded.
“Members of the public are advised to plan ahead and be extremely cautious at all times,” the FRA has advised.

Residents in Savusavu had reported heavy rain and flash floods in the town area from since early this morning.

Some residents took to social media and reported the area in front of the Courts Fiji store in town was heavily inundated with flood waters, and council workers worked on clearing drains of debris.

Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure remains slow moving over the northern parts.

According to the weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi this morning, the trough of low pressure is being accompanied by an associated cloud and showers that will affect the northern parts of the country.

For Labasa and Savusavu, expect occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls.

The outlook for Saturday, expect afternoon or evening showers in the Northern towns.
