FLYING Fijians captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu is not sure about his availability for the match against the Barbarians in England next month.
Waqaniburotu, who is contracted with French Top-14 club Pau, said since the match was not in the World Rugby international release window, the availability of the professional players were not guaranteed.
He said the 2019 Rugby World Cup was done and dusted and they now needed to refocus.
“Everyone knows what the team went through and the results,” the 33-year-old rugger from Matuku, Lau, said.
“It was not the campaign that we hoped it would be, but it is done and dusted and we are back and need to refocus now.
“The boys are home with heads held high. There are tired bodies and they will go back to their families just to recover before they head back to their individual clubs.
“The Barbarians match is not in the international release window so the availability of the players will all depend on their clubs and we will have to wait on that.”
When questioned if a franchise set up in Fiji would help lift the standard of local rugby, Waqaniburotu stated that it was hard for him to comment on the issue and it was up to the Fiji Rugby Union board.
