Poor drainage has led to poor road conditions at the Yalava flats in Kavanagasau, Sigatoka.

Resident Ifereimi Viqa said heavy downpour would flood the road causing major maintenance works for vehicle owners.

He said the road had now become a one-way road because of poor drainage.

“The issue is with drainage. Even now the road has turned into a one-way road because on the other side the road is waterlogged,” he added.

Mr Viqa said it became difficult for motorists to commute.

“Last year they fixed the road but they didn’t dig the drain.”

He said during the rainy season many parents like him had to carry their children to school.

“We have to carry our children to school so that their uniforms won’t get wet.

“It is a serious problem and it needs attention.”

Questions sent to the Fiji Roads Authority last weekend remained unanswered when this edition went to press last night.
