THE University of the South Pacific is awaiting a report from the insurance company currently assessing the damage on the student academic services building that was engulfed in fire last year.

This has been confirmed by university vice-chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia.

“We are still waiting for the insurance company to get back to us on this. I have no further update on the matter but we are hoping that we will get something in a month or so,” he said.

“Their timeline keeps getting delayed but it’s clear to us that we need to do something because we lost a major building and while we try to make sure it doesn’t affect our services to students.”

“We have to make sure to build a significant building as quickly as possible.”

Around 300 staff of the university were affected on the day of the incident where they were requested to vacate their respective offices.
