Unplanned power outage in Labasa

ENERGY Fiji Limited customers in Labasa town are currently being affected by an unplanned power outage.
EFL’s chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said the unplanned power outage at 1am today caused a power disruption to it’s valued customers in the following areas: Namara, Poultry Farm, Fisheries, EFL Customer Care, Rosawa Street, Westpac, Grand Eastern Hotel, National Bank, C P Patel, R B Patel, Macuata House, MAAF, Valebasoga Tropik Boards Ltd, Labasa Court, Ro Qomate House, Labasa Hospital, Labasa Town and FBC site in Namara.
“There was an EFL teams established that the underground power cable supplying the subject area had become faulty due to a 11000Volts cable termination failure,” Mr Patel said.
“The faulty underground cable was isolated and the power supply to affected customers was normalized partially around 4:30am except to Gurbachan Singh Mall and R.B. Patel Building,” he said.
Mr Patel said EFL teams are still working on repairing the cable fault before power supply is normalized for the remaining customers.
“At this stage, it is anticipated that repairs will be completed by 1pm this afternoon.
“Areas still affected by this outage are Gurbachan Singh Mall and R.B. Patel Building.
“The EFL sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused to all our valued customers due to this unplanned power outage which was beyond our control.”
