University of Fiji appoints acting vice-chancellor

THE University of Fiji has a new acting vice-chancellor.

Professor Subramani was appointed into the position by the University Council that sat for a special meeting at the Samabula Campus last Saturday.

And a statement issued by the council stated that the appointment was well received by the staff and students of The University of Fiji.

Professor Subramani has been a professor at all three universities in Fiji where he has served in various roles as Dean, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Acting VC, and he has been a visiting professor and writer to many countries.

He has also been part of Fiji’s Education Commission 2000, therefore, he is well-informed about educational issues in the country.

He is currently the Professor in Literature and Language, School of Humanities, at the University of Fiji.

He is a distinguished writer and literary scholar, the author of many seminal books, and who writes both in English and Hindi.

His two recent books are: Wild Flowers (2017) and Fiji Maa; Mother of a Thousand (2018).

He has received national and international awards for his work.

He will now hold the responsibility of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor until the substantive vice-chancellor assumes office.

Professor Subramani took over the duties from the former acting VC Professor Narendra Reddy.
