Uluiqalau District School receives new minibus

THE Uluiqalau District School on the island of Lakeba received a new minibus during the Lau Provincial Meeting at Tubou.

The minibus which was handed over by the Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Selai Adimatoga is part of Government’s assistance to schools with students of special needs.

The Head Teacher of Uluiqalau District School, Seniteteva Tupou according to a Government release received the minibus on behalf of student with special needs on the island of Lakeba.

“It all began at the end of last year when the Special Education Unit conducted a workshop on Lakeba. Before the workshop I put up a survey on the students’ performance in our school. I found out that we have three students with physical disabilities,” Tupou said.

“I then invited the Education Officer to come and look at my survey. After our school was registered last year as a Special School, I also received information from the Office of the Commissioner Eastern that Government has assistance programs for Special Schools.”

“I then gave in an application supported by the Commissioner Eastern Divisions Office for a minibus for our students with disabilities,” Tupou said.

The head teacher believes this assistance will all students with special needs on the island of Lakeba.

“This Government is committed towards an inclusive education program where no one is left behind. I think this assistance will be a boost to the performance of all the teachers in Lakeba.”

“I must thank the Prime Minister and the Minister for Education especially to the Education Officer Eastern and the SEO Special Education for this assistance.”
