Fiji celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities

THE International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated today at the Fiji National Council of Disability Persons complex in Toorak, Suva.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Allevaition, Dr Josefa Koroivueta while addressing those in attendance at the event said the day was an important one for people living with disabilities.

He said there were many forms of disabilities in the country.

“We have people with mental, physical, spiritual disabilities and others within this landscape,” Dr Koroivueta said.

“We have to tackle this in a careful considered manner to ensure that there is equality, inclusiveness and to make sure that there is no discrimination.”
