THE sugar industry has been a source of livelihood for many Fijian families for decades.
This week, the Shanti Dut brings you in-depth coverage on Fiji’s sugar industry – highlighting the plight, sacrifices, successes and aspirations of sugarcane farmers.
We spoke to farmers such as Shri Lata, who is a role model for other female farmers in Rakiraki, western Fiji.
Ms Lata stays alone and manages a 15-acre sugarcane plantation that produces 300 tonnes of sugarcane annually.
And we also bring to you an inspirational story of 16-year-old Saahil Chandra, who pursues farming as a hobby apart from his studies.
Read this and more in your Shanti Dut that hits the shelves today.
