AS the biggest storm to make landfall in Fiji carved a path of destruction around her, Sherin Kumar was besieged by a cycle of motions that had her worried for her life.

As the winds of the category five storm intensified, so did her labour pains.

With no doctors, nurses and medical equipment, Sherin placed her life and the life of her unborn child in the hands of village health worker Mariana Naidole and farmer Peni Qiokata.

Read about how the duo risked their lives to get to a school block and help deliver her baby in today’s edition of The Sunday Times and in ourĀ e-Edition.
