Say ‘no’ to plastic bags

SOMETIMES I’m a little slow off the mark in getting out my fabric bags at the checkout. I find the packing person has already begun filling my purchased goods in plastic bags.

It occurred to me if the packing staff could take on the role of asking customers if they have their own bags it might just reduce the use of plastic bags at the shop front, where most plastic bags originate before ending up in our waterways and oceans.

It might serve to prick the conscience of the consumer. As for the retail outlets, handing out fewer plastic bags would mean a significant and positive impact on our precious environment and marine life.

We can all share in this responsibility and it is such a simple and easy solution.
