Rape top list of sexual offences recorded in January

Rape topped the list of sexual offences for January this year alone, with statistics indicating 17 alleged incestuous incidences.

Statistics provided by the Office of the Director of Public revealed that in the month, there were 26 people charged with a total of 75 counts of sexual offences – rape (49), assault with intent to commit rape (1), indecent assault (2), and sexual assault (23).

Of the 26 accused persons, four were juveniles.

The DPP stated there were 26 victims, 22 of whom were below the age of 18 years.

It also noted that there were 24 female and two male victims.

The youngest victim was a four-year-old girl.
