Prakash leads field

Schoolteacher Roneel Prakash is gunning for top spot at the 52nd GM Motors Fiji Golf Open championship at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club.

He shot a five-under 67 yesterday to bring his total to 136. On day one, Prakash shot three-under par 69. In second place and two shots behind is Zoheer Ahmad at 138 (69, 69).

Relegated to third spot is Fiji Order of Merit leader Tomasi Tuivuna 139 (66, 73).

Ba lawyer Vikrant Chandra 143 (70, 73) is in fourth place while Arvind Lal 145 (68, 77) and Anasa Seruvatu 146 (72, 74) is placed fifth.

Meanwhile, for Nur Khan, 71, it was a great feeling to come back to Fiji and play at the tournament for the very first time.

Khan, who used to play at the Nadi Airport Golf Club many years ago, now lives in New Zealand and plays at the Pakuranga Golf Club in Auckland.

“I have been playing golf for the past 25 years. The tournament is a great one after COVID-19 and I see more people in the golf now,” he said.

The veteran golfer added it was good to see young boys doing well in the sport.

“I made a lot of friends and I am very happy to be here. I am happy about my game, my swing and my shot games were good,” said Khan.
