A POWER outage at the Suva courthouse since Monday affected a scheduled trial that was to start at the High Court in Suva yesterday.
Chief Registrar Yohan Liyanage confirmed there had been an outage at the courthouse since Monday morning and the power was restored about 4pm yesterday.
One of the cases that was affected because of the outage was the trial of former Fiji Corrections Service commissioner Iferemi Vasu and acting deputy FCS commissioner Peniasi Kunatuba who are facing abuse of office charges. Initially, the trial was to begin on Monday and end on July 26.
However, this did not eventuate because of the power outage.
Audio recordings of the trial could not be recorded that prompted presiding judge Justice Riyaz Hamza to vacate the trial to yesterday.
When the case was called again yesterday, Justice Hamza had to vacate the trial date and rescheduled it for October.
