Police plea on alleged kidnapping

THE Fiji Police Force is pleading with anyone whose child is missing or is aware or had witnessed an alleged kidnapping or abduction incident in Valelevu, Nasinu last week to come forward.

Their plea comes after an 11-year-old student claimed she saw four children tied up in a white van during an alleged kidnapping attempt on Thursday morning in Valelevu.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday confirmed police were working on information provided by the victim.

She said investigators have liaised with the heads of the three schools (two were in the same uniform) and confirmed that no student had been reported missing or unaccounted for by their parent or guardian.

“Checks have also been made at all Police Stations in the Southern and Eastern Division area of operations, from Navua to Nausori and no reports of missing children remain pending over the last 48-hour period,” Ms Naisoro said.

Police said the alleged kidnapping report received involving the student was the only report received so far.

“There hasn’t been any new report lodged during the same 48-hour period.

“We are therefore pleading with anyone whose child is missing or if their child had witnessed or is aware of the alleged kidnapping or abduction incident to come forward or call Crime Stoppers on 919.”

Police have also assured Fijians that all information brought forward would be verified.

“We will continue to look into all the information provided to verify the claims of the alleged kidnapping incident.”
