PRIME Minister and Tailevu Rugby Union patron Voreqe Bainimarama congratulated the Tailevu women’s team for winning the Skipper cup trophy.
The team celebrated their victory in style with a march through Nausori town to Syria Park where the PM awaited their arrival. Bainimarama said they had made the vanua proud to be the first women’s team to win the prestigious trophy.
“I had earlier spoken on the issue of protecting our women and to be here celebrating your success with you is an honour,” he said.
“Majority of you players playing for Tailevu are not from Tailevu but I am grateful to you for giving your time to represent the vanua.
“Hats off to the team management both men’s and women’s teams for good season despite the men’s team not making it to the top finals but to be in the Skipper Cup competition is good news.”
He also added that since the Oceania rugby competition is around the corner it will be a good platform for the players to join the team.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if majority of you players will be joining the Fijiana team. Thank you for the win and thank you to all the committee for a job well done.”
Captain Priscilla Siata thanked the PM and the Tailevu Rugby union committee for the support towards the girls.
“We are grateful for everything and I hope for more celebrations like this in the future.”
