Pleas fall on deaf ears, says Roqica

The 2018 General Election will be held this Wednesday.

DEVELOPMENT projects for Suweni Village in Cakaudrove have been promised many times over the past five decades, but never delivered.

These were the sentiments of village elders and retired government workers who have returned to Suweni and seen very little or no changes at all.

Tevita Roqica, 73, claimed pleas for infrastructural development made over the past years have fallen on deaf ears.

“We have always asked all governments over the past years to build a bridge for our students because during rainy days, the river gets flooded and students can’t go to school,” he said.

“This has been an old problem and many governments have come and gone, yet we still don’t have a bridge.”

Another villager Luke Tama, 84, supported Mr Roqica’s sentiment, saying they have been deceived many times.

“Politicians of all parties from the 1970s visit us in the village and tell us that they will do this and do that and improve our roads, but nothing much done until today,” he said.

Jovilisi Mereke, 79, said nothing had changed much in the village with infrastructure development.
