PINE resource owners and stakeholders are brushing up on their business skills at a five-day workshop held at the Forestry Training Centre in Colo-i-Suva this week.

The workshop, conducted by the Cooperative College of Fiji, focuses on skills needed by new and existing business and includes topics such as business ideas, market assessment, record keeping, stock control, building sales, and business plans.

Training facilitator Beniame Bulilevuka said the pine industry had been neglected for quite some time and while the technical skills in the industry were strong, there was a need to complement this with business skills.

He added there were plans to roll out this business skills training program in other parts of the country.

The workshop has 14 participants and was organised by the Ministry of Forestry in partnership with Fiji Pine Trust and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
