Labasa Magistrate Senileba Levaci yesterday turned down a bail condition police requested to restrict the movement of 54-year-old Mohammed Saheeb, who was Fiji’s COVID-19 patient number 9.

In a special court sitting yesterday, police prosecutor Subramani Naidu asked that Mr Saheeb be prevented from traveling out of Vanua Levu because he had just been cleared of the sickness.

Ms Levaci ruled otherwise stating that there was no medical support to prevent Mr Saheeb from traveling out of Vanua Levu.

However, she ordered that Mr Saheeb surrender all travel documents, not to interfere with the nine police witnesses, to abide by the curfew hours from 10pm to 5am and report every fortnight at the Labasa Police Station.

Ms Levaci ordered the two sureties a bail amount of $1000 each.

Mr Saheeb has been charged with one count of failing to comply with COVID-19 self -quarantine restrictions.
