THE USA Eagles men’s 7s team are adamant on toppling Fiji to secure their first HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title as both them and Fiji gun for a win this weekend at the Paris tournament.

After securing their berth to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after a bronze medal finish in London. Fiji leads the standings with 164 points with USA sitting on second with 162 points and New Zealand third with 143 points.

“We’re two points behind Fiji so if we win the tournament this weekend, we end up winning the whole thing,” USA 7s rover Stephen Tomasin told USA Rugby.

“Yeah we got the Olympic qualification written off for this weekend, going into next weekend (this weekend) it’s all to play for.”

After never having secured more than two medals in a single season, USA has earned seven medals in nine tournaments in one season, tying the number of medals they won between the series’ inaugural season in 2000 and last season.

The team has reached all nine semi-finals this season, something no other nation has done, and spent most of the season ranked No.1, first in series history.

Fiji will also be out to secure their fourth series title. USA heads Pool C with Canada, Samoa and Spain.
