HUNDREDS of Lautoka residents converged along the city’s main street to witness the 2019 Fiji Airways Farmers Carnival float procession.

Bringing colour and life into the Sugar City one final time this year, the spotlight was on sugarcane farmers and their supporters.

Organising committee president Vyas Sharma said the parade was a culmination of a successful week for his team.

“The feedback has been really great from the public and we are very happy with how the whole carnival turned out,” he said.

“We had a very good crowd coming to the park on certain nights and overall there was a very good flow of business.”

He said they were looking forward to finalising the charity fund which would go towards assisting the underprivileged.

“It’s too early to tell how much we collected but at the end of the day whatever amount we managed to get, it will be put back into the community.”

The five-day festival was closed by Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
