Pacific Challenge: Junior Japan downs Samoa to win opener

JUNIOR Japan won the opener defeating Samoa A 31-21 in their opening round match of the World Rugby Pacific Challenge held at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Japanese skipper Shota Fukui said they came with a mission and was happy with the outcome.

“It is always tough to play Samoa,” he said.

“We worked hard and achieved the desired result.

Japan outscored Samoa four converted tries and a penalty to Samoa’s three converted tries.

Junior Japan will meet the WRPC champions Swire Shipping Fiji Warriors next week.
