THERE has been interest from overseas markets regarding the export of organic certified products.

Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND) Fiji director Sashi Kiran said the organisation was working with organics since 2012. “Actually since we’ve been speaking about it, we’ve had interest from New Zealand,” she said.

“We have had other organic market interest in Australia and New Zealand and they are unregulated markets. “We have our certification called Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS), so this is a peer group system and it’s not a third party so we are only targeting the unregulated markets at the moment.

“There’s quite a move towards health foods and non-chemical foods.”

Apart from exporters, she said, there had also been good interest from resorts and boutiques who want to put these products out for the customers.
