Oceania 7s: Nauru claims first international win

THE Nauru Men’s 7s team won their first international match beating Vanuatu 22-12 during the 2019 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship 11-14 playoff at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Coach Dagan Kaierua said the sacrifice had paid off. “You put in a lot of hours preparing for these tournament,” Dagan said.

“It will be long but eventually the sacrifice will pay off,” Dagan their win showed how the game was slowly progressing back home.

“We came to our first Oceania 7s last year and were unlucky to get a win.

“Our boys came into today with a mission and we were not going to leave empty handed.”

Nauru dedicated their first win to their families and the people of Nauru as well as the Yamacia Rugby Club who helped them prepare ahead of the tournament.

Nauru will meet Tuvalu in the 11 place playoff final.
