THERE has been no clear indication from the Education Ministry on whether teachers will receive pay increments.

During Education Minister Rosy Akbar’s meeting with heads of schools on Thursday, the question on when teachers would be paid was asked.

A head of school from the Nausori area asked Ms Akbar on the outcome of the annual performance assessment (APA) or appraisal of teachers’ performance that was conducted in 2017 and 2018.

In response, the ministry’s head of service delivery unit, Timoci Bure, said the issue would be looked into when the ministry meets the Fiji Teachers Union (FTU) and the Fijian Teachers Association (FTA).

“It is on the agenda of the meeting that the honourable minister will attend with your union executives,” Mr Bure said.

“We will let the members know when we will have that meeting.”

Meanwhile, in June last year, Ms Akbar told Parliament that teachers would receive their pay increments last year.
