A 42-year-old mother of four is in a coma at the Lautoka Hospital after she was allegedly attacked by her defacto partner about two weeks ago.
Ravindra Singh, a farmer who lived a short distance from the victim in Bilalevu, Sigatoka, said he came to the woman’s aid after his aunt heard her cries for help.
“I rushed to the spot with my two boys armed with stones and pieces of wood,” he said.
Mr Singh said he was able to detain the perpetrator with the help of his son and brother.
“We chased him and he stumbled and fell in a drain, he even exchanged a few blows with my son but we managed to hold him down after a brief struggle.”
Mr Singh said they found the victim lying in a bush near her house.
“My son picked her up and she was gasping for breath and had blood coming out of her mouth, nose and ears.
“We rushed her to the hospital after informing police.”
Mr Singh claimed the couple had been having domestic issues for some time and a domestic violence restraining order had been issued against the perpetrator.
Police spokesperson Savaira Gonedua said a 38-year-old suspect was admitted at the Sigatoka Hospital, while the 42-year-old victim remained admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.
