A WOMAN charged with the alleged rape of her three-year-old daughter was granted bail by the High Court in Suva yesterday.
The accused appeared before judge Justice Daniel Goundar charged with one count of rape.
It is alleged that the mother raped her daughter between September 2018 and January 2019.
The alleged incident happened in Suva.
State counsel Momita Chaudhary sought 21 days to file information and disclosures.
The court was told the child was under the care of the Department of Social Welfare.
Ms Chaudhary informed the court that the child gave an interview in questions and answers form.
She said the interview was done in Hindi and later translated into English.
Justice Goundar questioned the State as to how the case was brought to the police attention.
In response, the defence informed the court that the accused had taken her daughter to hospital after she had complained of stomach pains.
She was later referred to the child care unit at the CWM Hospital and that was where the Social Welfare officers got involved and informed the police.
Justice Goundar granted bail to the accused on strict conditions.
The accused has been placed on a 24-hour curfew and ordered not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
The case has been adjourned to March 26 for plea and bail review.
