More awareness needed for school tsunami evac plans

THE National Disaster Management Office says more awareness is needed for students and teachers to familiarise themselves on their tsunami evacuation plan that the schools have provided.
This week, a total of 2361 people participated in a tsunami drill that was held at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji National University and the Fiji Sports Council.
“The NDMO believes that more wardens are to be allocated in the future to look after the different areas within their agencies,” the NDMO said in a Government statement issued today.
It stated that this would assist with the command and control of evacuees to their safe zones.
