EVERY Fijian deserves to live with the security and happiness that only clean water can provide, says Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Jone Usamate.
Speaking at the commissioning of a new water project for villagers of Nalebaleba in Navosa this week, Mr Usamate said the $193,000 investment showed that Government was committed to giving all Fijians access to clean, safe drinking water by 2020.
“It is an investment we are happy to make because from clean water there are many benefits that keep us more productive and more resilient to environmental hardships,” he said.
The project includes the construction of a new 45,000 litre cement tank, the laying of pipelines and installation of 15 standpipes and showers.
“Government has again and again made the extension of essential services such as water to our rural community a top priority.”
Government has committed $11.3 million in the 2019/2020 National Budget through the Water Authority of Fiji to implement 32 water schemes in rural communities.
