Man who escaped custody seeks Legal Aid assistance

A 26-YEAR-old man who is alleged to have escaped from the Suva Court House premises yesterday appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.
Niko Rokara Levula is charged with one count of escaping from lawful custody.
Police prosecutor Constable Waltor Taito served full phase disclosures.
Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama has handed Levula to the Korovou prison authority as he was sentenced by judge Justice Salesi Temo to 20 years imprisonment yesterday after being found guilty of a count each of rape, burglary and aggravated robbery.
Levula has sort assistance from the Legal Aid Commission in this matter.
The case has been adjourned to March 6 for a plea.
