Man on rape and abduction charges further remanded

A MAN facing rape and abduction related charges has been further remanded by the High Court in Suva.
Manasa Ratuloaloa is charged with one count of abduction of a person under 18 years with the intent to have carnal knowledge, wrongful confinement, indecently annoying any person, and assault with intent to commit rape and rape.
Mr Ratuloaloa allegedly abducted and raped a 13-year-old girl at Lakena Irrigation Rd in Nausori in January last year.
The accused had allegedly offered the complainant a ride and took her to Lakena where he allegedly raped her.
In court today, State lawyer Sheenal Swastika said the pre-trial conference checklist had been finalised together with the agreed facts for the case.
Defence lawyer Lavenia David informed the court that their case was based on total denial and they were ready for trial.
Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe set the trial date from February 3-7 next year.
The case has been adjourned to August 13.
