AT the age of 57, Naruwai, Bua native, Pita Volia still dreams of opening a construction company.
Graduating with a Certificate in Carpentry from the Fiji Technical College’s Ratu Meli Ravoka campus in Nawaca, Bua yesterday was Mr Volia’s ticket to his dreams.
The father of three is a widower after his wife died a few years ago.
“I have always had this dream of owning my own construction company because the Northern Division lacks this very much,” he said.
“With my company, I would like to start by serving the province of Bua before branching out to the other two provinces.
“Last year I was a bit hesitant to join the recruitment drive in our village because of my age, but I am proud to have done that and I am the eldest graduate at this year’s graduation.
“Now I know what I will do with my carpentry certificate and who said life cannot start at 57.”
Meanwhile, Naivivi, Qamea native Pelasio Tosi was proud to be the only male graduate with a Certificate in Cookery.
The 20-year-old said he would use his certificate to find employment in one of the resorts on the island of Qamea and contribute to his family’s income.
Mr Tosi said he had always had a passion for cooking since he was young, adding he would also further his education in cookery to become a professional chef.
