Lautoka and Nadi residents advised of discoloured tap water

RESIDENTS living in Lautoka and Nadi have been advised to contact the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) should they begin receiving discoloured water through taps again.
According to WAF, they had discovered an increase of Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) levels at the Nagado Water Treatment Plant from raw water sourced from the Vaturu Dam earlier this month.
WAF has attributed this increase to sudden changes in climatic conditions resulting in low dissolved oxygen levels at the dam.
WAF general manager customer services Sekove Uluinayau said the oxidation reactions of iron and manganese had caused the water in the Nadi and Lautoka water system to appear discoloured (pale to brownish).
