LAMI Primary School today ended their week-long cultural celebrations to help indigenous students learn more about their cultural values and traditions.

Cultural Week coordinator Savaira Tabuaniviti said with the theme ‘Meu kilai au mada’, the students were given the opportunity to learn more about their villages and what their provinces were distinctly known for.

“Many a times with the current curriculum, students perform better on English-based subjects, however,┬áthere is a lack of performance in their vernacular subjects,” Ms Tabuanaviti said.

“I am not saying that the curriculum is bad, however, there needs to be a push made by the school to help promote a strong sense of culture in order for these students to perform better in their vernacular subjects.”

Ms Tabuaniviti also acknowledged the parents for their continued support towards the week-long celebrations.
