Labasa Police investigate own on brutality allegations

POLICE are investigating a case of alleged brutality involving an officer.
A family in Labasa has claimed on social media that their son sustained injuries as a result of the alleged incident.
It is understood that the victim fractured his ankle, injured his right ear and bruised his face as a result of punches he received from the alleged incident.
The alleged incident is believed to have happened this week.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed a report had been lodged at the Labasa Police Station.
She said the complainant was a suspect in an alleged drug case.
“We confirm a report has been lodged.
“The complainant is a suspect in an alleged case of drug and was arrested after he was found in possession of white substances believed to be methamphetamine,” Ms Naisoro said.
“When approached, he allegedly fled and jumped over a fence and was allegedly injured in the process.
“We will investigate the claims made against the officer.”
The victim is admitted at the Labasa Hospital.
