Fashion designer Aisea Konrote will be hosting his first solo-fashion show at the Yue Lai Hotel in Suva today.
He said this fashion event would be unique because he would be highlighting the importance of respecting women.
“I’ve done many fashion shows, participated in Fiji Fashion Week, represented Fiji abroad for a couple of years, but this year, I would like to change the narrative of fashion into something that is more meaningful,” Konrote said.
“It took a while for me to find out where I can be of use to fashion and also to the community, so I decided that I will create awareness on stopping the rape culture in Fiji.”
He said a fashion show was a good platform to create awareness because it attracted a lot of people.
He said he would be presenting two mothers as models during the show to portray the message more effectively.
“There will be 50 models, which includes two mothers, one a home-stay mother and another a business woman to show that we need to respect all females.
“I have more males in my show because most of the perpetrators are men so I want them to learn and show respect to the female models in the show first.”
Konrote said he would be showcasing more than 80 collections at the show.
