CURRENT tobacco and suki vendors, retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, distributors and importers have been advised to apply for their licences and registrations by the end of this month.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, through the Tobacco Control (Amendment) Regulations 2019, gave official notice for the extension.

The ministry said the extension was afforded due to feedback that was raised during this year’s budget consultations.

The ministry said this was a one-off extension and should not be expected in the future.

“The Regulations require all relevant parties, regardless of size, to file their applications with the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services before this extended deadline in order to obtain their licence / registration. No exceptions will be made,” the ministry said.

“The regulatory changes, published in today’s Gazette, have come into immediate effect.”
