THE Fiji Taxi Association has condemned the attack on a taxidriver in Ba who was allegedly assaulted and robbed while transporting a passenger last Friday.

FTA president Raben Singh said no driver should feel unsafe while delivering a service to members of the public.

“People should understand that a taxi driver is serving the public,” he said.

“They are there for the travelling public whenever they need transport so it is disappointing to see some of them being treated this way.”

He said the full extent of the law should be accorded to the person behind the alleged attack.

“Mr Raneshwar Singh has been a taxi driver for more than 30 years and this is the first time that something like this has happened to him.

“I have full confidence in the police that they will bring justice to Mr Singh and his family.”

According to the victim, the individual who allegedly assaulted him was travelling to Vatulaulau before the attack.

Police confirmed an investigation into the alleged incident had begun.
