THE Fiji Roads Authority will construct two new bridges along the Seaqaqa-Savusavu highway.
FRA earlier confirmed the construction of a Bailey bridge at Vesidrua Village, Seaqaqa, which is under construction.
FRA chief executive Jonathan Moore stated yesterday that it would build a second permanent bridge at a crossing past Vesidrua Village, along the highway towards Savusavu.
“It will not be a Bailey bridge but a permanent bridge,” Mr Moore said.
“The work on the permanent bridge will immediately begin followed by the demolition of the old bridge once the Bailey bridge (in Vesidrua Village) is completed.
“The permanent bridge planned to be completed by July 2020.”
For the Bailey bridge, Mr Moore said this would be completed by mid- July.
Mr Moore has also described their joint efforts with the Land Transport Authority as a success.
“This is currently in progress and we are asking all motorists to please comply with the vehicle axle load limits,” he said.
“We have specific weight restrictions at several locations stated against specific bridges.
“It is because these bridges are in a deteriorated condition and there is a serious risk that they could be further damaged, or even collapse, if overloading continues unabated.
“We thank the public for their patience and support during the construction period.”
A maximum weight of 18 tonnes is allowed to cross the bridge at Vesidrua Village.
