A FOUR-year-old boy is believed to be the country’s latest drowning victim.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident occurred yesterday afternoon at the Waitana River in Tailevu.

“The victim resides in Khalsa Road, Nasinu and had accompanied his mother for a swim when the alleged incident occurred,” Ms Naisoro said.

“While the two were swimming she discovered her son missing and following a search found him lying motionless near the river bank.”

Police investigations continue.

The drowning death toll currently stands at seven compared to eight for the same period last year.
