FNU and Agriculture ministry collaboration to improve Fiji’s agriculture sector

THE Fiji National University (FNU) looks forward to working closely with the with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment (MARMDWE) in providing policy recommendations and strategic direction to improve the local agriculture sector.

FNU’s College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF) Dean Professor Paul Iji said this in a Government statement after his meeting with the newly-appointed Minister for MARMDWE, Dr Mahendra Reddy, yesterday.

Professor Iji said the full potential of various industries including agriculture could only be realised through stronger research and extension collaboration between all stakeholders.

The senior academic said given FNU’s large research base, they looked forward to working closely with the ministry in providing policy recommendations and strategic direction to improve the local agriculture sector.

He said he looked forward to a new beginning in higher levels of collaboration with the ministry and hopes the collaboration opens the vast pool of expertise in agricultural skills to the development and growth of agriculture in Fiji.
