THE FIJI National women’s open-grade team lost to Australia-based Goodwood Saints in a close friendly match today at Albert Park in Suva.

Goodwood Saints defeated the home side 33-32.

The Adelaide, Australia-based team paid a visit to the country to learn the culture and also play Australian Football with the local players.

Team organiser Wayne Gehling commended the Fijian players on their performance and competitive spirit in the sport.

“The Fijian girls really gave us a good run and are very highly skilled, fast and strong.

“Our girls from Australia were a little bit intimidated by their strengths but I guess a little bit more experience and executions made were probably the difference by one point. This is a good game played in good spirit,” said Gehling.

This was the first time for the team to visit the country and has planned to make it a yearly visit.
