One year and seven months after the brutal murder of a Sigatoka couple which haunted the quiet farming community of Lawai, police announced the arrest of a 24-year-old farmer alleged to be involved in the killing.

Commissioner of Police (COMPOL) Sitiveni Qiliho told a media conference yesterday that technology helped police investigations.

He said a team deployed to the scene of the incident last year “established that some items were missing from their residence”.

“Investigators were able to trace the digital footprint and movement of the stolen mobile phone which resulted in questioning of more than approximately 30 people after the phone has been transferred to a couple of people along the way,” Mr Qiliho said.

“We acknowledge the support and assistance of the two mobile service providers as investigators were able to, through the use of technology, narrowed down to the suspect allegedly involved.”

The suspect is now in custody at the Sigatoka Police Station.

The bodies of real estate developer Sesha Reddy and his wife Mirdu Chandra were found in their home by an employee.

This newspaper reported on February 20, 2021, that a friend of the couple said the couple was alone in their four-bedroom house when the incident happened.
