FORMER All Black 7s star Karl Te Nana says Fiji is ready to host a tournament on the HSBC World Sevens Series.
Te Nana who arrived into the country on Tuesday this week said Fiji’s hosting of the 2018 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship for the second year in a row is a positive sign that it is also ready to host a tournament on the HSBC World Sevens Series.
“It shows a real bench mark not just about the level of play but that Fiji can really host a 7s tournament,” Te Nana said.
The Oceania 7s increased its numbers this year with a total of thirteen men’s teams and eight women’s teams.
Te Nana said the Oceania 7s is also one of the best places for smaller nations to showcase their skills against some of the best players in the world.
“One of the hardest places to win is Fiji.
“Not many people can say that they have done it, and with these teams bringing their top sides again, it shows a lot of respect.
“Hopefully it is a stepping stone further down the track for Fiji in terms of getting a stop on the circuit and raising the bar here in the Oceania.”
