HIGH Court judge  Justice Daniel Goundar has sentenced Australian national John Nikolic to 23 years imprisonment a while ago.

Nikolic was convicted and found guilty of two counts of importing an illicit drug and one count of possessing arms and ammunition without a licence.

Nikolic had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He had in his possession 12.9kg of imported cocaine, 65 tablets of cocaine and methamphetamine and 112 rounds of ammunition without holding an arms licence.

A non-parole period of 18 years has been set.

Justice Goundar said the offence of importing illicit drugs was treated as a serious offence.

“Both cocaine and methamphetamine are dangerous illicit drugs. The effects of both drugs were similar and highly addictive,” Justice Goundar said.
