FORMER Suva Grammar School student Fane Sauvakacolo has been selected to attend a two-year sports academic scholarship at the Southwestern College in IOWA, USA.

Sauvakacolo was a member of the SGS athletics team and a regular participant at the annual Coca-Cola Games.

She is part of a group of athletes chasing for a spot in the national team for the Pacific Games in Samoa in July.

Athletics Fiji general secretary Nemani Tukunia said this was an ideal opportunity for Sauvakacolo to learn and broaden her knowledge and also develop her talent.

“The opportunity for Fane to broaden knowledge and hope the program will add further dimension in her personal and professional development,” Tukunia said.

“This scholarship initiative program is aligned to Athletics Fiji four-year strategic plan.”

Sauvakacolo hails from Lutu, Naitasiri. She has been a regular participant at the Coca-Cola Games and her main events are the triple jump and 400m.

Tukunia said Sauvakacolo had been training hard under the guidance of coach Jone Delai as she wanted to qualify for the upcoming Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

The scholarship is awarded under the Oceania Australia Foundation Scholarship Program.
