THE Clean Environment Policy provides guidance for securing a cleaner Fiji for all Fijians through a decentralised community-based, awareness, readiness and litter enforcement program(s).
Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy highlighted this during his meeting with Stephen Harris, Special Representative of the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Alliance (CCOA) during their meeting yesterday.
Mr Harris had paid a courtesy visit to Dr Reddy yesterday and they discussed the importance of addressing the causes and consequences of marine pollution, particularly in Small Island States.
Dr Reddy also highlighted measures taken by the Ministry of Waterways and Environment, which included infrastructural developments such as sea wall protection and natural-based solutions like the usage and planting of vetiver grass and rehabilitation and replanting of mangroves, all of which were in progress.
A proposal would be submitted by Mr Harris on how the organisation could assist the Fijian Government in ensuring cleaner and safer oceans.
