THE Department of Environment visited the logging site near Adi Cakobau School in Sawani, Naitasiri on Thursday.

Permanent secretary for the Environment Ministry, Joshua Wycliffe said he would not comment on the issue until the report was completed.

“I can confirm that the environment team visited the site and I am able to comment once I have a report from the site,” he said.

Sawani Village headman Anare Batigai told this newspaper earlier that they — the traditional landowners — weren’t consulted before the logging activities were carried out.

He said they would write to the relevant authorities to question why they were not consulted.
