Draft Defence White Paper remains under review

THE draft of the Defence White Paper – a document that will outline national security strategies – is under review by the Solicitor General’s office.

Fiji’s National Security and Defence Council Secretariat director general Timoci Natuva confirmed this to The Fiji Times saying they were now waiting for the advice of the S-G’s office.

In an interview, the former Minister for Defence said once the review was completed, the document would be presented before the National Security Council for further scrutiny.

“After this, the paper will be presented before the security council, then to Cabinet before it is tabled before Parliament,” Mr Natuva said.

The Defence White Paper will outline national security policies such as, among others, strengthening the defence capability of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces.

Meanwhile, the Police White Paper – the draft document that will outline the role and structure of the Fiji Police Force within a set timeframe.

It is understood that the two documents have been under review for the past few years.
